A well-designed tea point is a central touchpoint within the office where people take a moment to reset, collaborate and connect. At Liquidline Ireland, we support Design & Build partners in creating workplace tea points that look exceptional, perform reliably and integrate seamlessly into contemporary office environments.
As one of Ireland’s fastest-growing suppliers of commercial refreshment solutions, we work closely with designers, contractors and end clients to ensure every detail, from equipment choice to service layout, is planned effectively from day one. With dedicated Project Managers and a complete product portfolio, we make it easy to deliver beautiful, functional tea points ready for use the moment the doors open.
Key Design Considerations
Getting the foundations right is key to avoiding reworks, installation issues or unexpected client costs. With thoughtful planning, a tea point can become one of the smoothest parts of a fit-out project.
Power Source
Power sockets should always be located inside the base cabinet and positioned above pipes or water feeds to reduce the risk of electrical damage in the event of a leak. Surface-mounted power points are not ideal, as they can interrupt the aesthetic and create complications during installation.
Correct electrical planning ensures all appliances can be installed safely, neatly and without adjustments later down the line.
Water Supply
Water feeds should be placed with accuracy. If connection points are too far from the intended machine position, it can create awkward pipe routes, pressure issues or servicing challenges. When correctly planned, equipment installation becomes seamless, and the tea point remains functional and easy to maintain long-term.
Waste & Drainage
Coffee machines and filtered taps require dedicated waste outlets, which should not be shared with appliances such as dishwashers. Separate drainage helps prevent blockages and ensures consistent performance.
Keeping waste concealed behind cabinets maintains a clean, streamlined finish and ensures multiple appliances can operate without strain on a single outlet.
Efficient Use of Space
Space is one of the most important and often most challenging aspects of tea point design. While overhead cabinets offer valuable storage, machines need room for opening lids, refilling bean hoppers and carrying out routine cleaning. Compact options, such as the Schaerer Coffee Club, can sit comfortably beneath standard cupboards, but higher-capacity machines typically require more vertical space.
Under-counter planning is equally important. Elements such as water filters, waste containers, refrigeration units or syrup stations must all be accommodated without restricting access or creating clutter. Allowing sufficient room for these components ensures the tea point remains tidy, efficient and easy to service.
Don’t forget the small but essential ancillaries, items like tea bags, sugar, stirrers and cups need a practical, well-positioned home on the countertop. Keeping these close to the main equipment improves workflow and helps the space feel intuitive to use.
For solid surfaces such as granite, quartz or marble, any drilling required for taps, waste outlets or cable feeds must be completed ahead of installation. This makes early coordination with your refreshment partner crucial, ensuring all machines fit seamlessly into the final design.
